MELBOURNE WATER KIDS TEACHING KIDS CONFERENCE 2014
On Thursday 31st July and Friday 1st August, the Senior Environment captains Harry and Aaran and six Yr 5s from the Senior Environment Team attended the Melbourne Water Kids Teaching Kids Conference. The 2014 Melbourne Water Kids Teaching Kids Conference on Thursday was held at Etihad Stadium, Docklands and the Environmental Project Day on Friday was held at Collingwood Children’s Farm. This event allowed students from Melbourne and regional Victorian schools to look at water catchment issues. Students from around Melbourne and Victoria brought local stories about their environments to the conference.
What is Kids Teaching Kids about?
The Kids Teaching Kids Program promotes positive wellbeing and helps build resilience in young people. It raises awareness and drives action on local and global environmental issues, bringing communities together to solve common challenges and help the next generation of leaders who will take collective responsibility for our future.
What Did The Students Do?
On Thursday the students participated in expert panels with Mike Larkin the weather man and Arron Wood the founder of Kids Teaching Kids. They also participated in workshops with other schools and presented our school’s water warriors shield to Melbourne Water. On Friday the students participated in many activities at the Collingwood Children’s Farm which included making mini rain gardens, studying macro-invertebrates in the water and presenting at reflective sessions in the afternoon. The students enjoyed themselves immensely and learnt a lot about how to save water.
KIDS TEACHING KIDS WORKSHOP EVENT AT MWPS IN SEPTEMBER
