We had great fun at our 2nd working bee this year. Thanks to those family and staff that took time out of their busy lives to attend it and make our school a better place to be! We now have a new gravel path, a cleaner school and new fruit trees!

This year Year 5 have been invited by Monash Council to visit VISY’s Project R Recycling Plant in Dandenong. Grades 5A and 5B attended this excursion on Friday June 6th and Grades 5C and 5D attended this excursion on Tuesday June 10th. Students were given a full tour of the park and get to see behind the scenes at one of Victoria’s newest and biggest recycling plants.

Aimed at school students in years 3 to 12, Project R is an education program based on the National School Curriculum, and operates at five centres across Australia including Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, and one centre in Auckland, New Zealand. Students participate in group tasks that challenge their behaviours and attitudes towards how they recycle, and are taken on a tour of the Visy facilities to help them better understand the closed loop process. Students will met Gloria Glass, Stevie Steel, Parker Paper, Ali Aluminium and Pete Plastic as they take them on a journey into the world of recycling!

WWF (World Wildlife Fund )is challenging Australians to head off to work and school and go about their day dressed head-to-toe as an animal during WILD ONESIE WEEK from the 2nd to 8th June, 2014 (which includes World Environment Day on June 5). MWPS Senior Environment Team challenged our school to participate in this event by holding a WILD ONESIE DAY on FRIDAY 6TH JUNE. Students dressed in a wild onesies, or dressed like an animal, or wore their favourite pjs on the day. A GOLD COIN donation was requested. We raised $764.45.   The funds raised will go towards our sponsored animals (which include koalas, a bilby, an orang-utan, a Tasmanian devil and a Leadbeater’s possum.) (See our sponsored animals page for more details of our animals).

MWPS MENTORS MONBULK PRIMARY

SENIOR ENVIRONMENT CAPTAINS TAKE ON A COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP ROLE

In the past two weeks, Harry and Aaran, our Senior Environment Captains have been taking groups of people on a tour of our 5 STAR SUSTAINABLE School. Last week, they played host to Julia Barnes from CERES. They took her on a tour of our school and showcased the many great things that we do at MWPS. Yesterday, Mrs Ordish came with six Grade 6 leaders from Monbulk Primary School. Harry and Aaran again hosted this group and gave them an educational tour of our school. The students from Monbulk said that they learnt a great deal from us and are eager to start on their journey towards sustainability. We are proud to be a mentor school for Monbulk Primary School and VERY proud of our school’s environmental sustainability leadership in the community.
